Community Alternatives is a private, non-profit organization created specifically to support people with disabilities, and their families, in choosing and designing a life for themselves within their community. Our Mission is to encourage and promote the total integration of people who experience a disability, to live as independently as possible in the community of their choice. Community Alternatives will administer the highest degree of personal and family centered care, and will do so by producing high quality outcomes, focusing on employee excellence and carefully matching Caregiver expertise to individual needs. We provide companionship, medication reminders, meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, reading, socialization, light housekeeping, observation, grooming & dressing, range of motion, transfers & ambulation, incontinence care, diabetic care, medical appointment assistance, hospice support, respite care, pet care, emotional support, travel care and hospital support. At Community Alternatives we promote activities for elderly adults and adults with cognitive, physical and/or mental health disabilities. In the past we have attended the Legal Country Drag races at the WI International Speedway in Kaukauna, attended Packer Fun night, hosted Art in the Park, attended a corn roast, participated in the Shawano Community Parade several years with a Wizard of Oz float and a Minion themed float and had a Valentines Day decorating contest. Possible upcoming events: see the Zoo at Doc's Harley Davidson, go to the Navarino Nature Center, participate in a Fourth of July decorating contest and attend ThursdayZ at Franklin Park in Shawano.

Opportunity to Volunteer

Community Alternatives is a part of MUSIC & MEMORY®, a 501(c)(3) organization. We want to help those individuals at Community Alternatives who have a wide range of cognitive and physical challenges to find renewed meaning and connection in their lives through the gift of personalized music. Volunteers would be a great asset to this program! We would appreciate sharing your talents with us. We are also looking for volunteers to take members swimming, to events or activities and to socialize in the community. Volunteers must have a background check and may require a driver's license check.
